What does January mean for Wiccans?

Published by summer_spirit at 3:16 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Good question, no? Actually, I think it’s a good question for everyone. What exactly is January?

January is a time of renewal and rebirth. In Roman mythology there is Janus, the two-faced God, with one to the future and one to the past. He is the gatekeeper of the New Year. Wicca also supports this idea, only it is the Oak King that becomes victorious over the Holly King. Instead of looking two ways at once, it is a passing of the torch of the year.

January, then, is a time to leave behind the old and step into the new. I feel an appropriate ritual would be one involving brooms–let your imagination take you from there.

Today I am going to start ridding myself of something, alongside my baby steps. Not only will I make sure Phil (my cat) is fed every morning for breakfast, but I will be cutting out one piece of chocolate/dessert item per day for the next week. It’s not going to overhaul my diet right away, but it’s the little changes that count.

What do you plan to leave behind this year? How can you get started today?

Thanks for commenting on my blog! I like your positive posts here. I haven’t decided what I am going to do this year. I think I have one big goal and everything else will hopefully go along with it.
